how to connect to sonos speaker

Introduction

Setting up your Sonos speaker system is simple. Follow the steps below to connect to your wireless network and then add speakers to it.

Open the Sonos Controller App.

The first step to connecting your Sonos speaker to the internet is opening the Sonos Controller App on your phone. You can find this app in either the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. To open it, simply tap on either of these buttons:

  • On an Android device, tap on “Google Play”.

  • On an iPhone or iPad, tap on “App Store”.

Once you have downloaded and opened the app (if you haven't already), you'll see a screen like this:

Select 'Set up a new Sonos system'.

  • Select 'Set up a new Sonos system'.

  • Next, you will be asked to set up a new sonos system. You can use the same account on multiple devices and add multiple speakers to your system. If you have another sonos device, like our playbar or sub, then you can also add that here too!

  • You don't need any additional hardware or software for this part of the process other than your phone or tablet.

Choose your wireless network and enter the password.

  • In the 'Wireless' section of the app, select your wireless network and enter the password.

  • Click 'Next' on your computer or device to begin connecting to your wireless network

Create a Sonos account by entering your email address.

When you first connect your Sonos speaker, it will automatically walk you through the steps to create an account.

You can also sign in using your Facebook account or an Apple ID.

Select whether you would like to sync music from your computer to your Sonos system or if you will be streaming music from an online service.

Your Sonos system can be used to stream music from a variety of online services, such as Spotify, Apple Music and Pandora. If you want to use your Sonos speaker with one of these online services, select the option that reads "Stream music from my computer." If you don’t have access to any online services at home or just want to listen to music stored on your computer instead, select "Sync music from my computer." If you are using a Mac computer with iTunes installed:

  • Select “Preferences.”

  • Click the “Playback” tab and then click on “Devices.”

  • Select “iPod/iPhone" or "AirPort Express" depending on what type of device you have connected through iTunes

Select which speakers you would like to add to the system.

  • Select which speakers you would like to add to the system.

  • After selecting a speaker, select the room that the device will be connected in and then select the name of what you want to call it (Speaker 2, Living Room).

Select what room the speakers will be in, then click 'Next'.

Once you're in the controller, click ‘Add Speaker’. This will open up a window where you can see all of your Sonos speakers. To select which room to add the speaker to, make sure that it's turned on and connected (you can check this in the app) and then select it from the list by clicking on its name.

Name each speaker individually by room. Click 'Next' when finished.

Name each speaker individually by room. Click 'Next' when finished.

The name you give your Sonos speaker should match the room where it is located, but that doesn't mean you have to adhere to some strict naming convention. If you want to call one of your speakers "Flow," go right ahead! The important thing is that the names make sense in context, and are easy for everyone using the system to remember.

You have now successfully added speakers to your Sonos System! Click finish!

You can now stream music from your computer or from an online service, such as Spotify or Pandora, through Sonos and control it with the app.

Conclusion

Now that you have successfully added speakers to your Sonos system, it's time for the fun part! You can use the Sonos Controller App to play music from your computer or stream music from various online services such as Spotify and Pandora. You can even connect your iPhone or iPad to one of these speakers via Airplay or Bluetooth!
